It is a partnership between Teachers College, Columbia University, GoSection8, and Great Schools. With funding from the Arnold Foundation, researchers from Teachers College, Columbia University are studying whether offering school information alongside rental housing listings on GoSection8.com causes families to move to neighborhoods with higher-performing public schools. Results will be used to provide GoSection8, Public Housing Authorities, and the Department of Housing and Urban Development information about how and whether to offer school information alongside rental housing listings. What participation means. Participation in the study requires that you create a user name and password on this website. If you agree to participate, we will also ask you to fill out a 1-minute survey where we ask basic information about you. Researchers may contact you one additional time by email with a second 1-minute survey. A randomly selected group of study participants will be offered school information from GreatSchools in addition to the usual housing listings on GoSection8. The other half of the study participants will view only the usual housing listings on GoSection8. For only those users who agree to participate in the study, GoSection8 will also share your GoSection8 webpage visits with the researchers. For users who have a Housing Choice Voucher, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development will provide information about HCV recipients’ addresses and the characteristics of their families like household size and total income. Confidentiality. The researchers will keep all participant information confidential and will only use them for the purpose of the study. The researchers will not sell your information to anyone. The researchers’ reports will contain summaries, and responses will never be presented in any way that would permit readers to identify you.
